Sich selbst in Szene setzend, ist Rothen nicht nur hinter, sondern auch vor der Kamera ein Profi. Bereits mit Fünfzehn startete sie ihre Karriere als international gefragtes Model und arbeitete mit Designern wie Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga und Yves Saint Laurent zusammen. Fast zwei Jahrzehnte blieb sie in der Modebranche tätig. In ihren früheren Arbeiten waren Männer nur ausserhalb ihrer Bilder, höchstens als Beobachter oder Voyeure zu spüren.

In ihren neusten Arbeiten wird der männliche Gegenpart von Puppen übernommen. Dabei handelt es sich um Puppen, die als Ware und Sexobjekt per Mail bestellbar sind und als solche der Frau die alleinige Kontrolle überlassen. Rothen, die allein durch ihre Schönheit eine gewisse Macht auf das männliche Geschlecht auszuüben vermag, spielt mit den Erwartungen an die Geschlechterrollen. Ihre Inszenierungen von teils intimen Situationen erwecken unweigerlich Assoziationen zu Filmen aus Hollywood und der dazu gehörigen Industrie, die seit 2017 durch die Missbrauchskandale und der ausgelösten #Me Too Debatte im Fokus der Öffentlichkeit an Glanz verloren hat.

Was anfänglich als eine Selbststudie und Freizeitbeschäftigung begann, hat sich zu einer vertiefenden künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung entwickelt, welche zunehmend international Anerkennung findet. Seit 2007 werden ihre Arbeiten in Galerien in Paris, Sydney, Istanbul, London und bei Steven Kasher in New York ausgestellt. Zudem war Rothen an der Paris Photo und der Photo London mit Werken vertreten.

Putting himself in the limelight, Rothen is not only a professional behind, but also in front of the camera. At the age of fifteen she started her career as an internationally sought-after model and worked with designers such as Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent. She stayed in the fashion industry for almost two decades. In her earlier works, men could only be felt outside of their pictures, at most as observers or voyeurs.

In her latest work, the male counterpart is taken over by dolls. These are dolls that can be ordered as goods and sex objects by email and, as such, leave sole control to the woman. Rothen, who is able to exert a certain power over the male sex through her beauty alone, plays with expectations of gender roles. Her staging of sometimes intimate situations inevitably awakens associations with films from Hollywood and the related industry, which has lost its luster in the public eye since 2017 due to the abuse scandals and the #Me Too debate that was triggered. What began as a self-study and leisure activity has developed into an in-depth artistic examination that is increasingly gaining international recognition. Since 2007 her work has been exhibited in galleries in Paris, Sydney, Istanbul, London and at Steven Kasher's in New York. Rothen was also represented with works at Paris Photo and Photo London.
